Comptroller Further Extends Tax Deadline for Storm Victims to April 26

ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 19, 2007) - Comptroller Peter Franchot today further extended the state's filing deadline for people directly effected by the storm that hit the Northeast on Sunday and Monday. Impacted taxpayers now have until midnight Thursday, April 26, to file their state tax returns. The IRS recently announced a similar policy.

"Many last minute filers are still dealing with the effects of storm-related power outages and property destruction," said Comptroller Franchot. "This additional extension will help ease the burden some continue to face today. We only ask taxpayers to be honest about whether or not they have been legitimately impacted by the storm. This extension is for victims, not procrastinators."

Comptroller's officials ask impacted taxpayers to mark their paper tax returns with the words "April 16 Storm," in order to prevent incurring late fees.
